I won't rant too much... *grins* But mistletoe is emblematic of holy fire, and Loki could not wield it--but he knew that a powerful innocent like Hod *could*. And so he used him. But it all works out exegetically in the end because Hod and Balder rule the universe together after Ragnarok sorts out...
