Well he IS a god of winter and darkness with those darkness powers.
Of course though, it’s entirely possible that he has some sort of ‘evil twin’ even though there isn’t one in the mythology.
Also, where is Dagda? I know he was in a wheelchair all battered up the last time we saw him, but I thought he would have recovered from his physical wounds by now
The bad thing is though, is that we’ll have to wait until Wenesday to find out more…

@Surt: Just how is Balder evil anyway?
I looked at godchecker.com and Hod does not have an evil brother, although I guess he could have a dark side to him.

Oh yea, remember his black ninja outfit from that ninja school he went to, I think that is what he is wearing atm, probably to sneak out of the house.
I wonder if he is under the influence or control of the Pookah as the pookah has a pretty evil looking glare at the end, even though Pookahs aren’t really evil, just malevolent, but those two things tend to blur into each other. Maybe it’s that the Pookah doesn’t have the ability to talk himself, and so is using Hod to talk for him.

Prehaps he’s been evil all along and has simply been playing up his blindness as a source of pity? That way, people would never suspect him.
His blindness as a comic-relief device in the strip pushes all reader suspition away from him.
Winter and darkness has always been considered pretty bad things, but bang up writing and art has been produced to present him being so innocent and lovable so far… But mabe he’s just minipulating things to prepare them for the bigger badder trials that are coming? Making them grow up a bit?

@smjjames - The Dagda was never a part of the plot to take Mjollnir… that’s why we never saw him during this storyline.
For those wondering, look at what Hod gained from all this… lots of money (double-check the beginning if you don’t remember that) and lots of time to work on other plans without interference. Hmmm… I wonder what plan Hod was working on earlier in the story (when everyone was asking what he was doing)?
You’ll find out more in the next storyline.

This surprised me, but admittedly; God of Darkness, yeah I suppose I can’t be to shocked. And with the way these boys prank each other to death I can’t see his having any long term negative effects on Hod’s relationship with the other boys. Hahaha I love it!

Poor Hod probably just wanted some time to work on his writing without interruptions, seeing as he rarely makes it past the opening line… And honestly, wouldn’t you be just a little grumpy if you constantly missed out on things like half naked and (very) friendly valkyries? (Career Days arc)

yea, since he is the god of darkness, I’m not too surprised that he is acting that way, but was surprised to see him there.

At first it was hard to believe that Hod was behind this. But now thinking about Hods power over darkness i’m thinking were going to be seeing an Arc about a dark Hod that ends up somehow starts Ragnorok (Norse Apocalypse) or Hod is preparing everyone else for the coming of Ragnorok

yea with Thor destroying the castle, them returning home and Hod going over to the Celts somehow, or they came to him, there is an apparent time gap.
or are you trying to say that this hod is a sort of future self? although he doesn’t look that much older.

I’m still wondering what Pookah’s role is in all this…
Also, you would think Dagda would want his hammer back, even if it is in two pieces and they were in Celtic lands. Unless he has alot of spares because he destroys it once in a while.
Oh yea, I looked on godchecker and the hamdle of Dagda’s club can be used to bring someone or something back to life (perhaps the goats), but you would think that Thor would have to know the right words or wield a certain kind of magic, niether of which he probably knows or has.

I can see Pooky with Hod - after all H doesn’t care about P’s looks (that distinguished scar et al - note his continuing infatuation with Hel) and they both have poetically dark natures, with a playful side. And I’m sure both would agree Thor is a deserving target for attention - as Loki would also concur. All in all, I love it!

Thor doesn’t need the Dagda’s club to bring the goats back. All he has to do is wave the hammer. They’ll be good as new! Yeesh! A Norse god needing the help of a Celt… as if!

Hod’s sad story is one of the things that seriously cranks my shorts in the Norse myth structure… I mean OK, it all HAD to happen to set the theology into motion, but sheesh… Frigga should have KNOWN and kept her mouth shut… and Hod was a tool, not a murderer, but was treated as one anyway and really UNjustly dealt with. I won’t rant too much… *grins* But mistletoe is emblematic of holy fire, and Loki could not wield it–but he knew that a powerful innocent like Hod *could*. And so he used him. But it all works out exegetically in the end because Hod and Balder rule the universe together after Ragnarok sorts out…
I’m withholding my judgment as to what’s afoot here, and I have my theories… but can I just emit one loud, huge, happy *SQUEEEEE!* at the sight of Hod all dressed in power-laden darkness, stroking a clearly happy pookah?? Oh how lovely….
And notice how he refers to his family in the third person as “the godlngs”. Is it Hod, or an impostor? Hmmmm…. we shall see! But OMG I am so looking forward to this arc!! Thanks guys!!
