That is a homage to viking beserkers, right?

Also, they should have seen the trap coming, especially since Chi-I-Ling is an expert at fighting in the dark…. and she had juat intercepted a spear.

  2. j c rouille Says:

Odin and Frigg are allied with Dark Hod? This does not bode well for our intrepid Norse Force.

  3. Theala Sildorian Says:

Uhmm . . . from the looks of things, I’d say any alliance between Hod and Odin is rather one sided.

Frigg is more surprising, after all Hod killed Baldur, even though it was a trick of Loki’s. Unless Loki was set up? We’ve all seen that Hod is just as clever as Loki.

  4. Riley Says:

Doesn’t Frigg Know that Hod is the one who killed Balder? O_o
    *Dun dun dun!*

  5. Kelly Says:

    OoOo A Mother’s Rage. I can’t wait!

  6. Jasta Says:

In “real time”, Hod was set up by Loki (heck, ALL the Aesir were set up by Loki!) because as the Cosmic Innocent (dark but still innocent…) Hod could handle the mistletoe dart (symbolic of sacred fire) and Loki (as anything BUT innocent) could not. And if Balder (and Hod) hadn’t died, they wouldn’t be able to come forth from Nifelheim at the End of It All(tm) in order to rule the re-made world.

*grins* So much for theology. In this storyline… I’m very confused but liking it. And Odin with a spike heel in his face is… an amusing picture. And isn’t Dark Hod a kind of misnomer?? *grins* I know, we have to differentiate them… but I really, REALLY am enjoying this, and I am SO confused, and… and… this strip ROCKS. Thanks guys!!

  7. smjjames Says:

Actually I think this is THE Hod, although it doesn’t really explain why he isn’t in helheim, unless that god which was born just to kill Hod (don’t ask me why the Norse have a god with such a one track existence) wasn’t born yet.

I know Brathalla isn’t supposed to exactly follow the lore.

  8. Jeffery Stevenson Says:

I’ve said it plenty of times, but I’m saying it again… Brat-halla definitely has some of the most knowledgeable readers around (especially when it comes to mythology).

As for Vali (the god born of Odin and the giantess Rind to avenge Balder’s death), he had his moment… it was before this storyline began in the future though, which is why Hod’s “stand-in” was already in Hel’s realm. You might actually get to meet Vali before this storyline is over though… guess whose side he’s on? :)

  9. smjjames Says:

Only thing thought, isn’t Dewi an immortal dragon? I always thought he was supposed to be immortal anyway.

How long can a dragon live? 100,000 years? It hasn’t been 10,000 years since agriculture began, so another thousand to three thousand years from the previous storyline wouldn’t be a pronlem for Dewi.

  10. Theala Sildorian Says:

Well, anytime you retell myth, changes get made–and that’s always been a part of oral storytelling. Reflecting on what we know of Norse mythology makes for a fun mental exercise as we breathlessly wait to see what our team has next in store for the Brats.

    Love this comic :D

  11. Nya! Says:

Hmmm, when I started reading this comic I was always wondering how the whole Killing Balder thing and Ragnarok was going to render, especially with Loki being one of the main characters and…hero… sorta. I always thought way back when in issue 98 “The Other Tossers” where Loki guided Hod to drop the log onto Balder’s head was reference to that.

Also with Mythology, there are several stories of the same idea. Norse is a little more obscure then Greek or Roman only because Christians demonized the Gods and destroyed a lot of temples and artifacts, (rather then embraced like Roman) and many stories have told in several different ways(some with Christian influance, some without)…which is great for artistic license!

  12. demas Says:

Lovet Friggs high heeled boot pinning odins head to the ground!
But her teaming up with Hod could imply this is all about bringing Baldur back. Since she can see the future, she would know this can only occur post ragnarok. Now let’s throw a working time ripper into the mix shall we? Ragnarok is over, Hod and Baldur rule of the the chaos free world, and can bring the rest gang back! Sort of a “get out of death free” card.

Hey, wonder if that’s Vali down in helheim pretending to be Hod?

Of course, even if all that is true it still leaves heaps unexplained.

Damn I love this comic! You guys do indeed rock!

Aaaargh. Just reached the end of the archives. Now I have to wait for updates like everyone else. :-(

Although with this story arc.. I’m completely lost.

    Hmm. Frigg’s aged well. :-D
