#301 - Twilight of The Hod: Cleena’s Wave

When I was originally doing research on gods from the Celtic arena for use in the beauty pageant in Pantheon Games, I stumbled across a lot of different myths/legends about Cliodhna.  So when we put her together for Brat-halla, we used more than one of the legends…

  1. smjjames Says:

lol, go Cliodnha the Banshee Queen!

Oh yea, on our chinese unicorn girl, go here: http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/chinese-mythology.php?deity=QI-LIN

I did see that while looking at godchecker some time earlier, but wasn’t sure if that actually was her.

  2. Wynni Says:

So, tell me again, WHY all these disparate goddesses, who probably wouldn’t normally work together, are working together, for Hod?

  3. smjjames Says:

I’m sure Aphrodite is working for Hod because she wants to avenge her loss to Balder, although Balder has been dead in Hel for some time.

Morrigan and Cliodnha are already part of the Celtic Pantheon who were apparently working under Hod as we found out in the last arc. No idea abut Erzulie and the Chinese unicorn girl Chi-I-Lin.

Speaking of the celtic pantheon, I wonder what Cernunnos and that other guy that we saw in the last arc, are up to?

  4. Jeffery Stevenson Says:

@Wynni - Maybe they all just wanted to make sure they were part of the winning team. Or maybe someone has some kind of supernatural influence over them. :)

  5. Jeffery Stevenson Says:

@smjjames - Yep, that’s her (a member of the Ssu Ling). I’m a big fan of the Godchecker website… probably because they too make mythology fun (they’re in my new links page for the site, which I’ll hopefully get finished and posted sometime in the near future).

  6. Kelly Says:

Poor Aphrodite, one day she’s going to have to learn not to announce her strengths and weaknesses in the middle of battle lol.

  7. Jasta Says:

Just a few random, gibbering thoughts: 1) The senior deities of the Norse pantheon are working with Hod (in their own… unique… idion… *cough*Odin*cough*…. There was mention earlier of “preparing the godlings”… *shivers* 2) If some of the Brats are now adults and (presumably) the Mistletoe Affair has occurred–that’s a very long time for the Celts to hold a grudge, so there must be one of those “Very Good Reasons” ™… :) 3) Hod never does anything for no good reason… I suspect when the resolution is revealed, it will be a doozy. I can’t wait! :) 4) If someone else has an Influence over all of them–AND over Hod–OMG there will be blood in the streets… I am just loving this storyline!

  8. Iron Wolf Says:

Are we certain that everyone IS working for Hod? IIRC Loki has disguised himself as Hod before, not to mention there are shape shifters in other pantheons as well. We have already seen two “Hod’s that weren’t, and it may be possible that none of the Hods we have seen yet may be the real one.

If it is Loki behind everything, Hod may be getting tortured in Loki’s place, and Loki does have th intelligence to pull something like this off.

Anyway, I for one have been enjoying the comic since I was first told about it, and I am curious to see what happens.

okay so the strange deer-like creature here http://brat-halla.com/2006/07/05/135-norse-force-shellshocked/ on ichapter 135 is Chi-I-Ling?? I was confused when you said she was part of the Ssu Ling and so I looked back at the chapters and looked at godchecker about the Ssu Ling, and I think I get it now.

Regarding the fourth of the four holy animals of chinese mythology, the third boy who helped Hod with endurance in 142 must be Long-Wang the dragon. I know there are five people in the Ssu Ling, but that’s because the phoenix is in yin-yang form.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if Hod recruited all of the Ssu Ling.

  10. Vagabond Says:

The Ssu Ling are also known by other names which are more familiar to myself and maybe others as: Seiryuu, Suzaku, Byakko, and Genbu. And yes, the only reason i know these is do to Fushigi Yugi.

  11. Snowpea Says:

I have no clue what is going on. The art is drawn in a very confusing way and does not help… :grump:

  12. Wolfsdottir Says:

I’ve been enjoying the whole backlog of strips, but now that I’m up to this storyline… well, it’s just not as fun when you are confused. These past few panels with all of the women “fighting” (are they fighting or just having a bout of chaos in a steamy shower??) have been very difficult to follow. I can’t tell some of the characters apart or what is going on. If you’re aiming for chaos, then you’ve got it. Once things are explained some, it will be all good again.

Nasty Celts, trying to beat up on our heroes.

  13. Theala Sildorian Says:

Jasta: Celts hold a grudge forever. Think of the “Troubles” and how long that went on.

Wolfsdottir: I admit some things confuse me as well. That makes the final end that much more rewarding when I spend the whole time guessing :D

  14. Wynni Says:

Poor Valkyries. Tho, considering what they do for a living, they ought to just laugh uproarously at the Banshee’s wail.

That’s it! They’re incapacitated with laughter, causing Cliodhna to fume and the other to be confused, until Frenzied Frig shows up to clean everyone’s clock.

and the Valkyries get away while Frig is making way through the intruders, yeah.

  15. Theala Sildorian Says:

    Works for me :D

  16. Silverwolf Says:

And this is what happens when a Sidhe gets PMS…
