I think Loki is on the verge of a panic attack.

Loki? Hysterical? Is that even allowed?
Kudos Hodd, just, kudos. (and remind me to stear clear when he’s creating) O.O
I still want to see. Loki’s only real problem with it is probably that he can’t control what gender he is now…. Heartbreak?
Hehe, I still think it’s funny that Loki is a mother… to Sleipnir, who somehow has 8 legs…
So, a giant, under the guise of a human, made an agreement to build walls around Asgard with only the help of his horse, Svadilfari, and if he did it by the Summer Solstice, he could have the hand of the sun, the moon, and Freyja in marriage. Loki convinces the gods to accept, but after watching him work for a day, they realize this guy is not human, but a giant, who builds at a very quick rate. The gods send Loki to resolve this problem, since he somewhat began it… so Loki chooses to distract the giant’s horse by turning into a beautiful mare…
I like the Wikipedia conclusion best, particularly the following:
“Loki did not manage to escape the stallion, however, and reappeared only many months later, with the eight-legged horse Sleipnir, the result of his union with Svadilfari”

That’s probably the funniest story in all of Norse mythology. I can’t think of another one at the moment, so I’ll say it is.
And this is a priceless comic. Heh.
This one is quite good.
I also like the one where Loki makes Skadi laugh. ^^ I won’t tell that here though.
Perhaps his heart broke when he couldn’t stay with the beautiful stallion?
I don’t know how Sleipnir would account for heartbreak, perhaps due to the fact that (either Njord or Freyr) jumped over the vaferfire and the gate of Asgard on it to end the war of the gods (and the Aesir lost).
When will we see some Vanir btw. Freja is probably even more NSFW than those Celtic goddesses. ^^ The Valkyries should pale in comparison, even Aphrodite and Hera.
Loki’s other children weren’t created the same way as Sleipnir, though shape-shifting may have played a role in the fathering of Fenrir and Jormungandr.
Hel is supposedly half-black/corpse, according to Snorri again, and my theory is that her mother, Angrboda, is identical with Gullveig, who was burnt three times for bringing sorcery into the world by the Aesir (leading to the great war of the gods, because the Vanir had some family ties to her). There was some heart-eating (though not “breaking”) by Loki involved if I’m not mistaken. Gullveig/Angrboda didn’t die though, so Hel can indeed be the daughter of a “dead” woman (she’s the youngest of the three, IIRC). I don’t remember clearly if the heart made Loki turn female again, or if Angrboda actually gave birth to the children.
Ynglingatal mentions “Loka maer” (Loki’s girl) too, and it’s older than the Snorra Edda, so this reinforces that Hel (or someone who later merged with the female ruler of the underworld) is indeed Loki’s daughter.
Several stories seem to confirm that all of Loki’s children were “fathered” during the early times of the world, even before the great war. Except maybe for his son(s) (can’t remember exactly) with Sigyn (again, can’t remember exactly, but the intestines of one of them are used to finally bind him IIRC).
Thanks everyone, Norse mythology is not my strong suit. I think I love the comic almost as much for what I learn from you guys as I do for the comic itself.
Greek mythology, however I know a lot more about.
sprotte, I wouldn’t go calling Hera a beauty by any standard. She may have managed to marry that lecher Zeus, but it wasn’t her looks that got him. She’s actually described at one point as horse-faced. (remind me not to go outside for a while, that goddess isn’t the most reasonable and can over-react to the smallest thing. Good reason not to portray her as less then attractive.)
