Intermissions: Hod’s Comic #25

And the Norse did believe in letting children suffer for the sins of their fathers.

I’d like to give a quick bit of applause to MidnightWolf for being the first commenter to bring up the Princess Bride reference in Episode #323.

Hermod may be fleet of foot, but not so quick on the uptake . . . .

  2. Wolf Gunnison says:

    More sophisticated mythology humor!
(Or at least more sophisticated than giant monkeys. *coughcough*)
    I love it!

  3. j c rouille says:

Compared to our liddle Hodikins…no one is quick on the uptake…

  4. Zenopath says:

hey found the page where the two girls get turned to ash originally before all the time traveling happened and reinsterted them into the past:

    http://brat-halla.com/2008/03/21/275-mjollnir-madness-memorized/

so the entire storyline over last 7 months was all an alternate future that will never happen. Lol … hardcore.

  5. Noerartnoe says:

@Zenopath: Actually…if you remember, when Arazel and Xarenia were ripped through time at the time of their death there were *already* an Arazel and a Xarenia alive in the timeframe they wound up in, which doesn’t make much sense seeing as they were ashified earlier.
    .
Didn’t make much sense up until they were sent back that is, to the time right after they supposedly died, meaning they still existed in the original timeframe an…well crap, they killed Pookah didn’t they?(curse that memory of mine…) Colour my theory shot and buried. Nevermind me, carry on… *whistles innocently*

  6. Myrddin says:

    subtle, this one, bravo!

  7. smjjames says:

@Noerartnoe: It’s still possible that they would still exist in the same time period since they are still alive. the circumstances would just be different.

Of course though, this runs into the whole time paradox problem. Since Pookah isn’t there to give them a reason to time rip them from the past, they were still roasted and never time ripped, so Pookah was never killed, so they were time ripped to go kill pookah eventually, so they killed him and now pookah isn’t alive and so they aren’t time ripped… see where I’m going? It’s a variation of the grandfather paradox actually. Still doesn’t explain how they were still alive in that future period though. Unless that is an alternate timeline where they didn’t get blasted by the dragon.

It’s entirely possible that what happened is that the timeline split off into an alternate timeline, so the alternate future xarenia and arazael are still there.

The whole time travel thing and the time paradoxes make this arc even more confusing.

  8. Beth says:

I love paradoxes… they’re so much fun! Personally I’m a supporter of the alternate timeline thing.
yeah hi… don’t mind me, I’ve been lurking for a while and just now decided to make my presence known.
Anywho, I really love the comic!

@smjjames: I do not think it is a paradox, more like, they generated a new time line.

Red Alert dabbles in this. In Red Alert 1 Einstein went back in time and eliminated Hitler. Thus preventing WWII. However, later it had the Russian invading Europe to take over. The Allies managed to win, and after that war the new Soviet Primier controlled by Yuri (in Red Alert 2) went and started another war, the Allies managed to win that war as well.

But Yuri had used the war between the Americans and the Russians to mask his progress in setting up a global permanent Mind Control network.

(in Yrui’s Revenge) Using Einsteins Time Machine they went back in time after managing to disable one of the devices, which gave them the time needed to activate it. During the war between the Allies and Soviets the Allied (or soviet) Commander from the future (you) went about and thwarted Yuri’s plans.

At the end of Yuri’s Revenge the two timelines merged, and they had a 50/50 chance of overwriting the Original timeline where Yuri revealed himself and activated his network. With the new timeline where they had prevented the network from being constructed.

In Red Alert 3 the Russians went back in time, eliminated Einstein and wound up creating a new timeline where the Empire of the Rising Sun rose to power, no longer restricted by Einstein’s intervening and the lack of nukes for the Russians (which by the way Einstein developed, since the Germans did not do research into the field which provoked the Manhattan project, having never started WWII. Effectively he was the only one who even knew of the existence of Nukes and how they were made since he had his memory from the WWII we all know and had).

I think the wolves may have their jaws around the moon some nights, then it gets pulled out again…
